Several members of the North East’s only Kyokushin Karate club based in Spennymoor recently saw the New Year in differently.

They braved the elements at Seaton Carew, where they took part in a beach training session, followed by a refreshing swim in the cold sea. Beach and waterfall training are often used in Kyokushin karate as they strengthen resolve and help develop coordination, speed, and power. They also give the participants the opportunity to train in a totally different environment.

“Early January beach training, followed by a swim in the North Sea is not everyone’s cup of tea. We restrict this activity to those who train in the Adults Class, as it is quite an extreme method of removing the old cobwebs, ready for a fresh start to the New Year”. Chief Instructor, Adam Walker commented

Team Chikara are currently preparing for the Scottish Winter Camp where several members will be taking gradings.
